Hell Yeah Detroit: Take a shot from Downtown...Literally! Outdoor basketball courts now in Downtown Detroit
September 30, 2013 --
If you've been downtown lately you may have noticed a few changes to the parks: a beach bar at Campus Martius, a life-size game of chess off of Woodward, and new bright chairs and tables all around. Now you'll find a fresh new basketball court at Cadillac Square Park, next door to Campus Martius.
The new court was announced last week by the Downtown Detroit Partnership to provide more family fun downtown. You'll find the court between Woodward and Bates, open now through October 11th anytime between 7 a.m. - 10 pm. Don't like basketball? You can check out the other free activities in Cadillac Square Park including ping pong, bean bag toss, bocce ball, and board games.
"A basketball court in Cadillac Square is yet another way to connect people of all ages to the energy that is vibrating throughout our downtown area," said Bob Gregory, Senior Vice President of the DDP.
The new court also brought out kids from Detroit Pal over the weekend for a special Basketball Showcase.
The courts are open to the public anytime during park hours, bring your own ball or check out out at the games kiosk.
Want to play more than just a game? The following tournaments are scheduled for the new courts.
Lunchtime lightning tournaments: Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sign up at the game kiosk at Cadillac Square.
Three-on-three scrimmages: Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30 - 8:00 p.m., sign up at Come Play Detroit.
