44th annual Noel Night brings a flurry of activity to campus

More than a dozen Wayne State University colleges and departments will participate in the 44th annual Noel Night, which is scheduled from 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3. True to its roots, Noel Night continues to be a Midtown wide "Open House," celebrating the city's diverse holiday traditions amid the state's premier arts and cultural institutions, historic churches, galleries, and ever-growing circle of small businesses and restaurants.

New this year, Wayne State's Office of Economic Development and the James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History are partnering with TechTown Detroit and the Center for Community Based Enterprise on a pop-up holiday marketplace and wreath sale. The Winter Art and Retail Market (WARM), sponsored by KIND, will take place in a tented, heated space at the corner of Woodward and Warren avenues and will feature more than 45 local businesses and artists.

The WARM will also serve as the starting point for the Reindeer Run, a holiday photo scavenger hunt sponsored by TechTown and Wayne State's College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts. Teams of two or more will decipher clues that will lead them to Noel Night destinations. Teams with all the correct answers will be entered into a random drawing for three prize packages. Participants are encouraged to register in advance via Eventbrite.

More than 100 Midtown venues will participate, including Wayne State's Tierney Alumni House (open house), Art Department Gallery (exhibition), Bookstore (holiday stories), libraries in the Prentis Building (open house), Walter P. Reuther Library, Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs (exhibits and tours), Hilberry Theatre (holiday stories), Maggie Allesee Dance Theatre (show), Bonstelle Theatre (show), Planetarium (show), University Press Warehouse (book sale and show), Welcome Center (Canstruction), WDET 101.9 FM (tours) and the Matthaei Center (men and women's basketball). For more information on the activities taking place on Wayne State's campus, visit go.wayne.edu/noel-night.

There will be a free shuttle service that runs continually between parking decks and participating venues, as well as plenty of parking in area lots and structures, including Wayne State's Parking Structure 1 located at the northwest corner of Cass and Palmer, Parking Structure 2 on Anthony Wayne north of Warren Avenue, Parking Structure 6 on Putnam, and Parking Structure 8 on West Forest between Woodward and Cass.

Admission to Noel Night activities is free unless otherwise noted. Noel Night is sponsored by the MGM Grand Detroit, Detroit Renewable Energy, Arts Academy in the Woods, Trent Creative, Inland Press, WDET 101.9 FM, WWJ 950 AM, Hour Detroit, Fox 2 Detroit, Henry Ford Health System, Wayne State University, and the Detroit Medical Center. Midtown Detroit, Inc produces the event.
