Noel Night brings a flurry of activity to WSU, Midtown

More than 100 participating venues, including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Michigan Science Center, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the Detroit Historical Museum, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Detroit Public Library, will open their doors to the public from 5 to 10 p.m. this Saturday, December 2 during the 45th annual Noel Night. Activities include horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday shopping, family craft activities and performances by over 200 area music, theater and dance groups, and other special performances.


New in 2017, Woodward Avenue will remain open. The horse-drawn carriage rides and community sing-along led by the Salvation Army will take place on Wayne State University’s campus. Carriage rides ($7/adults and $3/children) will begin and end outside the Walter P. Reuther Library. The sing-along will take place in Woodward and Warren Park. Also in Woodward and Warren Park, WSU and TechTown are partnering on a fun and festive holiday marketplace. The Winter Art and Retail Market (WARM) will feature 50 vendors, a family-friendly photo op and free KIND snacks. It will also serve as the starting point for the Reindeer Run, sponsored by WSU's College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts.


More than a dozen other WSU colleges and departments will also be participating in Noel Night, including: WDET 101.9 FM (studio tours), Art Department Gallery (exhibition); Bookstore (holiday stories and crafts); Elaine L. Jacob Gallery (exhibition); Schaver Music Recital Hall (musical performances); Walter P. Reuther Library (photo op and exhibits); Hilberry Theatre (holiday stories); Maggie Allesee Dance Theatre (performance); Planetarium (show and science demos); Department of Music (hands-on instruments); Museum of Anthropology (exhibition); Welcome Center (Alumni Affairs and Canstruction); and University Press (book sale and show).
