MoGo, Detroit’s bike share system, expands and enhances service
MoGo Detroit recently expanded service and updated its pass options. The bike share system now offers 620 bikes at 75 stations in 10 neighborhoods in the greater downtown area, as well as Northwest Detroit, Ferndale, Oak Park, Huntington Woods, Berkley, and Royal Oak. Additionally, Monthly, Annual and Access Passes are now good for unlimited 60-minute trips.
The seeds for MoGo were planted in Wayne State’s Office of Economic Development in 2012. Several local foundations and corporations helped fund a feasibility study in 2013, which has served as the road map for implementing bike share in Detroit. MoGo became a non-profit affiliate of the Downtown Detroit Partnership in 2015.
As Wayne State learned when we commissioned the feasibility study, bike sharing encourages people to get around our region with convenience and ease, and MoGo’s expansion continues to prove that to be true.
There are several MoGo stations on and around campus, making MoGo a great option for getting from one building to another. Last year, a group of Wayne State students raced from the Student Center to the Mike Ilitch School of Business using MoGo, DDOT and the QLINE. Gurjas Batra, a regular MoGo rider, arrived in just 10 minutes—7 minutes before his classmate riding DDOT and 15 minutes before his classmate riding the QLINE. In addition to convenience and ease, many students and employees choose to ride for health and environmental reasons.
Biking has become an increasing popular method of getting around and exercising during the COVID-19 pandemic. MoGo began enhanced cleaning processes in March to help ensure rider safety and released a guide with dozens of featured rides around the city and Midtown to help you stay active while also staying safe.
Along with expanding service and enhancing cleaning processes, MoGo has updated its passes and pricing. Riders can now choose from the following options:
- Pay as You Go: $1 to unlock a bike, plus $.25 per minute to ride. Good for short, on-the-go or single-use trips.
- Prepaid: 2 hours of ride time for $18. Ideal for exercise, recreational trips, and sight-seeing.
- Monthly Pass: $20 per month for unlimited 60-minute trips.
- Annual Pass: $90 per year for unlimited 60-minute trips.
- Access Pass: $5 per year for unlimited 60-minute trips. For individuals who receive state assistance.
Passes are available for purchase via MoGo’s website and the Transit app. Wayne State students and and employees save $10 on an Annual Pass (regularly $90) when you sign up MoGoDetroit.org/WSU using your Wayne State email.
