Live Midtown is a residential incentive program created to encourage Wayne State, Henry Ford Health System and Detroit Medical Center employees to live in Midtown Detroit. Since the program’s inception in 2011, 908 employees from the three Midtown anchor institutions have taken advantage of $2,951,500 in financial incentives through the program.
The Live Midtown program offers four taxable incentive options – administered by Midtown Detroit, Inc. – to accommodate those looking to purchase or rent a home, and current Midtown homeowners interested in exterior improvements.
Live Midtown incentives include:
- $20,000 forgivable loans for new homeowners purchasing their primary residence
- $5,000 in matching funds for exterior home improvement projects
- $2,500 for new renters the first year, plus $1,000 the second year
- $1,000 for existing renters who renew leases
New for 2014: As of April 28, boundaries for the purchase component of the Live Midtown program have been expanded north through the North End to the historic Boston-Edison district. To view maps of the expanded Live Midtown incentive area, visit Live Midtown Boundaries.
The Live Midtown program is subject to the availability of funds and may be cancelled at any time. All Live Midtown funding is taxable.
All subsidized benefits eligible employees with the exception of graduate students are eligible for both the rental and purchase programs. Graduate students are only eligible for the rental program.
Temporary employees, students and volunteers are not eligible to participate.
Employees must be preapproved by WSU Human Resources to participate in the Live Midtown program.
