February is Black History Month at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History
In honor of Black History Month, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History has several events planned throughout February to celebrate black history, including live storytelling, a liberation film series and a lecture and book signing on African Canadians and the American Civil War. The Charles H. Wright is the world's largest institution dedicated to the African American experience. Founded in 1965 by Detroit obstetrician Dr. Charles Wright and a racially-integrated group of community members, the 125,000-square foot museum is located in the heart of Midtown Detroit's Cultural Center, next to the Michigan Science Center and within one block of the Detroit Institute of Arts. Key to the experience is And Still We Rise: Our Journey Through African American History and Culture, the 22,000-square foot, interactive core exhibit, which attracts and enthralls thousands of visitors per year.
